What makes a good artist? What makes a good potter? What makes a good person? This are all vague questions because anything can make you a good artist or potter, just as long as you have creativity and as long as you can look past the traditional ways. Reinventing old things is, to me, always something interesting and to put your own spin on it is even better. The one thing that makes a potter, an artist or a human being good or even great is creativity. Don't be afraid to mix things and try new things, or why not take something simple and make it into something that has a greater meaning to it? I think it's a simple as this, creativity is what you need to be good at anything.
A great potter is someone who loves doing the work they do. If they do not like doing pottery they are wasting their time, and not putting great effort into their work. Also, great potters are very creative, and can make great designs, and neat pottery that no one would think of.
Being a great potter consists of accuracy and being unique. Accuracy is a huge importance when it comes to pottery because if you can’t pull bowls off the wheel or hand build them then it would be challenging to be great at pottery. Being unique is also important because just about anyone can make a simple bowl but creating the green ware is the best part. If you don’t add your personality into your pottery then it’s not representing you.
There is no specific thing that makes a great potter. Anyone who puts the effort into making a piece is a great potter. Everyone is unique in their own way and their pieces express what kind of potter they are. There is no definition for a great potter. If there was a specific way in order to be a great potter then pottery would be boring. Pottery is a way to unwind and make something your own. Everyone should be proud of what they create and know that they are a great potter.
