This one is for Lina

Hello potters,
In Finland they say pottery is "Taika" or magic. Take a look at these examples of pottery from Finland. Tell me  what makes this pottery distinctly Finnish.  How can you identify them as Finnish? Your homework is due Friday, Feb. 10.

What makes these pieces look like they are from Finland to me is they have the common colors of blue, red, and a yellowish orange. Not only that, but I also think by the looks of it birds are a distinctive detail the Finnish people add to their artwork.

You can identify these 4 pieces by the colors, patterns, and animals. Although other cultures may have pottery that is similar to Finland, I think there distinct way of realizing that it’s finish is by the symbolism of the birds. Whether there’s a message behind it or not, it seems to be a huge part/main focus of each individual piece.

These pieces look finnish to me because all four pieces have a bird on them. Also all four pieces have the colors red, blue and yellow in them. These pieces are also very detailed. The birds also look as though they are drawn in a profile view.

By looking at these pottery pieces it makes me think that the signature symbol for Finish pottery is a bird. I believe that the birds and the colors of these pieces identify them as Finish. They seem to use a lot of blue with white backgrounds and a little bit of red added in them. Finland’s flag is blue and white so maybe that has to do with the popularity in these colors in their pottery. By doing this assignment, if I see similar pieces I might be able to distinguish if their Finish or not.

what realy makes the peices look finish in my mind, is that they all share pritty much the same color scheme- white, blues, reds, yellow. all of them also have a bird as their focus, which seems faiirly common in finsh pottery.

Finland has lots of blues and reds with white back ground. I also noticed that the all have birds that are the center of attention.

Finland seems to use birds as their main "eye catcher" in their pieces. Also, the shades of blues, and reds with a white background helps the objeects stand out.

Well it seems as though these peices embrace a lot of natural flows with the trees and the birds and also the shape of the pot itself. The peice also embraces lots of reds and whites and blues
