Hello Potters,
I now want to see what type of pottery you find exciting and inspiring. You will take some time to research some pottery websites. I want you to find 3 pottery sites where you learned some new techniques or new design ideas. You will include the web addresses and then tell me why each of those sites were so inspiring to you. We will then add these links to our Art website as resources for the future. For this assignment do not give me YouTube addresses. I have included an example below of 3 sites that have me hoping to "hop on the wheel" soon. If you have not voted for what you like to pull on the wheel, don't forget to do so soon.
I have always loved the irredescent colors and textures of raku and this site; www.natureofclay.com/081004RakuKeepsakeJar.html takes solid lines that create geometric shapes against the glowing colors. The pieces remind me of stain glass windows.
The work of William Shinn is very unusual; http://www.judithhalegallery.com/sculptures/clay_ceramic_sculptures.html
His pieces are very organic and remind me of the ocean and plants. I like the various textural elements he pushed into the clay. His work reminds me that if you want to emphasize the texture you should simplify the color work.
The next artist that inspired me was John Waterman from New Zealand.

I especially like his abstract pieces and how he uses negative shapes. I also like the combination of faces emerging from the clay. My favorite is in Gallery 3 called "Awakening". The complementary colors and contrasting textures draw your attention to the face.

This website was interesting to me because I would like to use the perfect profile rib. This is a huge wooden shaped rib that helps pull and smooth your pottery into whatever you are trying to make. She also helps out with how to trim pottery pieces, which I need a little more work on.

This website seems interesting because it has a lot of different tips and techniques when making pottery. I really want to make a pressed coil pot. This little coil project looks really neat and I want try and make one. The sides of the pot are the coils that you make. It makes the side of the pot look like a design.

This website is helpful to me, and would be helpful for beginners for pottery. It goes from preparing the clay to firing and glazing the clay. Even though I know most of the ways to prepare myself for going on the wheel to make pottery, it is still helpful to see what to do from beginning to end, just in case I am doing something wrong.

This website was inspiring to me because they opened my eyes to many different kinds of ideas that you can hand build and different ways to glaze pottery. I really like the little frogs and the matching houses, those were really cute. If I have time during my open studio, I might give that a try.

I really enjoyed looking at this website. This is very inspiring because it gave me like 5 ideas , no joke. I now really want to make some plates so I can try these glazing ideas. One that I really liked was the Red Romance and the Let it Snow plates.

This is an inspiring website because it gave so many various on how to glaze a piece. I really like each of these pieces and the glaze work on them. I would like to try the lighthouse design because it wasn’t to detailed, but not so plain that the piece would look boring.

This website was interesting me because I like the different vases and the deigns that were on them. I really liked one of the vases, it was a square with a hole on the top. This website has a lot of amazing shapes and deigns, some of the pieces have unique pictures. In a couple of weeks I would like to make vases like the one on here.
2. www.toddceramics.com
What interested me about this website was that the different shapes of the bowls. I liked the deep bowl and the mugs were nice as well. Most of the pottery is checkerboard it looks cool and I also makes the bowl or mug look bigger then it is. I would like to work on some mugs because I haven’t done any cylinder on or off the wheel.

I really like this website because the colors are amazing and the shapes of the vases are pretty. I like how the artist made all of these pieces by hand. I would rather make pieces with my hands then with the wheel. I think that if you make a mistake on the wheel you have to cut it off the wheel, and if you make it by hand you can fix it and make it better. I like how the line runs done all of his pieces, it make it look like a unique pieces. I would like to try to use these colors in the future.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_American_pottery
I like this site because it talks about the history of Native American pottery and shows different and unique ways different dorms of pottery can be decorated and I find that very interesting because I have always liked how Native Americans were and are connected with nature and I feel that their pottery reflects that connection and maybe by learning more about their pottery I can learn how they were able to connect with nature and be able to come up with designs that are as unique as theirs and hopefully find my own connection.
